The Minister of Immigration has announced that visitor visa holders will get a two month extension if their visa expires between 19 February 2021 and 31 March 2021. This visa extension happens automatically, and no fee is charged. So, if your visitor visa originally expired on 25 February 2021, your new visa expiry date will now be 25 May 2021.
In addition, the Minister has temporarily waived the rule where visitor visa holders can only be in New Zealand for nine months out of an eighteen month period. This covers people in New Zealand who apply for visitor visas before 30 June 2021. This means applicants will be eligible for a visitor visa of up to six months If all other requirements for a visitor visa are met.
These changes announced recently give visitors further time to plan their return travel to their home country, or to consider other visa options.
